More Chic Color Combos

Another Chic Color Combo is Blue and Orange, in particular Navy Blue and Orange; it is such a classic, modern look. When selecting a palette of blue and orange don't forget that you can select shades that are also toned down, like a terracotta and blue-grey. If using lighter shades, be sure to ground them with deeper colors like brown and charcoal grey, otherwise it will look like too many pastel colors. Have Fun!

This week's "Daily Dose" is about Chic Color Combos! I love decorating with color and so I wanted to share with you some of my favorite color combinations and how to incorporate color into your home!

 First up, Turquoise and Yellow - I love turquoise and yellow together, it is so refreshing, warm and modern all at the same time. See how in these examples, the two colors are grounded with neutrals; grays, beiges, whites and blacks, that is key to any color combo. To expand the palette throughout the house, introduce different tones, textures and a third color to keep the scheme from looking to "matchy -matchy" What are some of you favorite color combos?

I just have to share this awesome resource for custom furniture. Custom furniture does not have to break the bank, in fact it can be quite affordable and unique! I was doing a search for affordable custom headboards for a client and I came across Lindy, she owns James Furniture Co. and she is so talented! Color of the Year 2014

Today's "Daily Dose" Incorporating the Color of the Year into your decor.

 I have been studying up on Pantone's color of the year - Radiant Orchid. I just love how this color exudes warmth, but in a modern way. Pantone's definition "An enchanting harmony of fuchsia, purple and pink undertones, Radiant Orchid inspires confidence and emanates great joy, love and health. It is a captivating purple, one that draws you in with its beguiling charm.”

I have included some fantastic inspiration photos of how to use this color, some subtle, and some over the top! My recommendation with any trend is to use it only if you love it. Just because it is the color of the year, does not mean you have to use it, it just means that if you love it, you will be able to find more products and finishes done in this shade. Think about using it in art, decor pillows, and other accessories; items that are easy to change in case you tire of it next year.

Bedding and Bath Sales in January

The "Daily Dose" is back! Today's decorating tip: Take advantage of "White Sale" season.

 January is the month where most retailers and catalogs have "White Sales" and you can find great deals on bedding and bath. This is a great time to stock-up on basics, and add in a few new textures, colors, or patterns! If you are at all stifled, you can't go wrong with crisp clean white bedding and towels, then accent with colors or patterns of your choice.

 I am currently in the middle of redesigning two bedrooms and can't wait to share the results. If you have recently updated your bedroom or bath, post your pics here for others to get inspired!

How to design 4 rooms in 5 days

Redesign 4 Spaces in 5 Days? It is Possible!

 Before my client moved into her new apartment, she asked me to design her living area, dining area, entryway, and kitchen before her family moved in, and before her extended family came to visit for the holidays.

 We had 5 days to do it, and a conservative budget.

 Here is how I did it:

 1. Make a Design plan - it is crucial with any design project to create a plan, especially when you only have 5 days; there is no room for error!

 2. Recruit Help - It will always take more time than you think! I knew this, so I enlisted my talented sister to assist. Without her it would not have been possible!

 3. Shop, Shop, Shop - When you are short on time, you have to buy more than what you are going to use, then return unused items; KEEP YOUR RECEIPTS AND PACKAGING!! Remember, when you are buying used, you cannot return, so that is why your floor plan is so crucial!

 4. Do all painting and hardware installation first - You need to see the finished space before deciding where art, furniture and accessories will go.

 5. Load in the room - This is where your recruited help also comes in handy, having a second opinion when you are short on time helps speed up the decision making process.

 FINAL RESULT - Four beautiful spaces achieved on a budget. What a dramatic transformation!
