Daily Dose: Different ways to use wallpaper

Last week I had lunch with a friend and she asked me to do a Daily Dose on different ways to use wallpaper. Kristi, this week is for you! Below is one of my favorite ways to use wallpaper; bring new life to a bookcase! You only need one ...roll of wallpaper for two bookcases, a very low cost treatment with high impact! Want an easy way to install it? Look for wallpaper that you can paste directly to the surface, is removable, or is adhesive.

Daily Dose Accenting with White Bedding

Here is another great example of accenting white bedding with the color or pattern of your choice. What makes this so easy, is that white bedding can be found anywhere and at every price point. It brightens up the room and adds dramatic contrast against the chocolate colored bed.

Daily Dose Designing your Bed

This week's Daily Dose is about designing your bed. I am a fan of crisp clean white linens, either alone, or accented with your favorite pops of color or pattern. Use as few, or as many pillows as you would like! The example below shoes most of the color coming from the walls, the bed as the focal point with white bedding accented with a bold colored piece of furniture.

Daily Dose Ways to add brightness and lightness to your space

Another great way to add lightness and brightness to your space is to find pieces with mirrored and metallic finishes. In this example, the accent table has a mirrored top, and the chairs have a brushed metallic finish. These type of surfaces reflect light and take up less visual space.

This week's Daily Dose is about using a hint of shimmer in your space to add a different texture and dimension. Shimmer can be brought through will high gloss, metallic, or reflective surfaces. The look below is achieved will foil leafing..., either with gold or silver. You can find this product at any arts and crafts store. Pick your furniture item; leaf the entire piece, or just the drawers or doors. The options are limitless!

Daily Dose Confused about what to do for a coffee table

Confused about what to do for a coffee table, need extra seating and storage and don't how to accomplish all three of these functions in one room? Today's example of using pairs is about using a pair of storage ottomans to provide you with a coffee table, a place to put your feet up, extra storage, and extra seating. It's a cost effective solution that can bring tons of style to your space. Give it a try!

Another way to use pairs, is to use a pair of complementary pieces of artwork. This type of application can be used anywhere, over a console table as shown here, over a bed, a sofa, or on an empty wall.

Daily Dose find an accessory you love, get two!

Continuing with this week's theme of using pairs. One of the tips I always recommend is when you find an accessory you love, get two! In this example, two garden benches make this seating area; keeping it simple, stylish, and harmonious.

Daily Dose use it as a space to display your art or photos

Here is a great entry design, use it as a space to display your art or photos. The picture below highlights a modern monochromatic design; the decorative items can also be functional, like the bowl in this photo, it can serve as a place for keys or spare change.

Daily Dose is about designing your entry

This week’s “Daily Dose” is about designing your entry. The entry of your home is one of the many workhorses in your home. It stores your everyday essentials and reflects who you or your family is, representing both form and function for ...your home. My tip for designing your entry is to take inspiration from function, then play up the form. This is the one space where you can really have fun, as this is usually a smaller space. The picture below highlights one of my favorite entry ways, alright; all of them this week are my favorite.

To round out this week's "Daily Dose" below is another great modern design option for a space designed with both masculine and feminine points of view. In this example, there are light colors with clean lined furniture; however, the furniture is softened with slipcovers. The bold graphics represent masculine appeal, while the metallic furniture infuses femininity.

Daily Dose examples of blending masculine and feminine

Below is one of my favorite examples of blending masculine and feminine into one design because it incorporates leather. Use brown or black leather in any design, and it will instantly transform the space. In addition, the brown sofa, exposed wood bookshelves, and plaid fabric on the chair evoke a true masculine point of view. The feminine point of view comes from the yellow walls and bright pops of color. Give it a try!

Daily Dose Designing a space that is both masculine and feminine.

This week's "Daily Dose" is about designing a space that is both masculine and feminine. I am often asked how to design a space that incorporates both masculine and feminine points of view, so the design is balanced and represents all dwellers of the space. The example below incorporates darker colors with geometric patterns, as well as a wood cocktail table. Darker tones and wood elements are considered building blocks of masculine design, while patterns and furniture with curved lines are considered feminine features.
